Our insight into living in Peckham: where creativity and diversity thrive in south London

Arguably one of the trendiest neighbourhoods in the capital, Peckham has it all. Village-living for qfamilies, vibrant highstreets with lively nightlife and creative hubs for those intoxicated with new ideas and creativity.

Trendy, creative & diverse. Drink cocktails in the arches of a railway bridge, watch a movie with the iconic London skyline in the background, eat great food on the top floor of a car park. Peckham, the hipster capital of South London.

SE15, the area that has something for everybody. Great transport links into the city, a never-ending list of things to do and an area undergoing constant gentrification and regeneration. Whilst it has trendy elements that cater for the younger crowd, yummy mummies and those looking to settle down are heading to the quieter Bellenden Village and Nunhead.

Peckham encompasses three main sub-areas, Queen’s Road Peckham & Peckham Rye, this part of SE15 is trendy, with great food spots and an abundance of activities to enjoy. You’ve then got Bellenden Village which neighbours East Dulwich. This part of Peckham has a leafy, village feel which is comparable to Dulwich. It is peaceful, has great
schools and also benefits from independent shops and cafes. Lastly in SE15 you’ve got Nunhead, an up-and coming area which proving to be more and more popular thanks to its great transport links, high-street and Nunhead Green.

Peckham has a very diverse housing stock – extensive Georgian townhouses, rows of attractive Victorian terraces through to modern, new-build city apartments. Who said you can’t have it all?!

Restaurants & Brunch, Pubs and Things to do

If there’s one thing about Peckham, you’ll never be bored! There’s a seemingly endless list of things to do whilst you’re in SE15. For those who love art, MOCA London, Hannah Barry Gallery & Bold Tendencies have great exhibitions to check out. If you’re after some boozy arcade
fun, Four Quarters on Rye Lane offers retro games with drinks and an American-grill menu. Then we’ve got the  numerous eateries, bars, cafes and bakeries that Peckham has to offer.

Peckham residents benefit from a hugely diverse and scrumptious food scene. A couple of long-standing favourites (and for good reason!) for local residents include Ganapati for some South Indian flare and JB’s Soul Food for sensational jerk chicken and Caribbean cuisine. Artusi o ers a textbook Italian experience, Mr Bao with its superb Taiwanese cuisine and has a vibe reminiscent of Soho.

Looking for somewhere to enjoy a pub lunch or go for a few drinks in the evening? The Prince of Peckham (Clayton Road) is a staple and must-go, The Gowlett Arms (Gowlett Road) or perhaps The Old Nun’s Head (Nunhead Green) are all great options. These are some of our favourites and have great food, drinks and atmosphere.

For those who love a co ee and pastry, Peckham’s not shy of great places that have both. Bake with Monia, Rye Lane Cornerhouse & Rons Co ee House are all worth a visit!

Something for both the younger crowd and those looking to settle down

Peckham’s ability to cater to both families and young professionals has helped build an appeal to live in this part of South London. Whether you’re enjoying city life and looking for your first home or maybe you’re thinking about settling down and having a family, SE15 has got you covered.

If you’re thinking about having children in the not-so-distant future, or perhaps you’re considering secondary schools, there’s a vast array of great primary and secondary schools which include: St John’s & St Clement’s C of E Primary, Harris Academy, The Belham Primary & Newlands Academy amongst others.

There are three main train stations in Peckham: Peckham Rye, Queens Road Peckham & Nunhead Station. Peckham Rye offers both Overground, South Eastern, Southern & Thameslink Services. Queens Road Peckham Station has National Rail & Overground Services whilst Nunhead Station has Thameslink and Southeastern services. Essentially, Peckham is well connected irrespective of whereabouts in SE15 you live.

The most notable park in Peckham is Peckham Rye Park & Common. This vast green space has formal gardens, sports areas, woodlands, lake and a brilliant, scenic café.

Some of our local favourites

One of my guilty pleasures is a good coffee and pastry, Nola Coffee on Rye Lane is a very trendy spot with great coffee if you’re ever just o the Rye post run! For some great cakes and coffee, why not try Café G which overlooks Peckham Rye Park. Another notable mention is the Old Spike Roastery which is also on Peckham Rye.

Peckham arguably has the most diverse food and drinks spots in South London, alongside some truly spectacular date night spots. A personal favourite of mine is Forza Wine – cocktails, small plates and rooftop views? Yes please!! Another great mention is CLF Art Lounge which is an intimate venue with live DJs, drinks, lush seating and food.

Taquiza is tucked away in the arches of the Peckham railway line and has strong margaritas and amazing Mexican street food. Voodoo Rays is just moments from the Rye and has a great atmosphere if you decide to sit in with some friends, and offers a great variety of pizza flavours and toppings. Peckham Cellars is a real gem, it’s a wine bar offering a bistro experience on the trendy Queen’s Road
